## Case studies

### Forte

**Platform Development**
**August 2022 - Present**
[Scaling a Music Education Platform](/content/work/forte/index.html)
Forte launched in 2020 with a mission to revolutionize music education. Their initial prototype proved demand but faced technical limitations—especially in video call quality and scalability. To support rapid growth, they needed a complete rebuild with a future-proof architecture.

### CyberGRX

**Staff Augmentation**
**September 2018 - December 2021**
[Enterprise Third-Party Risk Management](/content/work/cybergrx/index.html)
Dev Shack provided Staff Augmentation for CyberGRX over 3 years, acting as the resident experts in Typescript, React, and GraphQL while helping develop their full-time engineering team.

Our team took on significant technical leadership roles, with Matt becoming the GraphQL expert, Mike leading frontend development for a critical microservice, and Will co-leading a complete reimagining of the Knowledge Graph system.

### Mazey

**Platform Development**
**April 2016 - April 2019**
[Team Collaboration Made Simple](/content/work/mazey/index.html)
Mike and Matt were brought on as the two full-time engineers to lead the engineering effort of Mazey, working closely with the two co-founders. Mazey would become the all-in-one solution for teams to share notes and documents, keep track of tasks, and communicate effectively across iOS, Android and Web platforms.

The team built React Native apps for iOS and Android alongside a React web app, iterating rapidly to develop features that resonated most with users.

### UtilityAnswer

**Platform Development**
**October 2015 - April 2016**
[Personalized Electric Shopping](/content/work/utility-answer/index.html)
Dev Shack was brought on to iterate quickly with the Technical Founder to scope out, design, build, and launch their platform, featuring many custom advanced interactive D3 widgets.

Working together, we struck a careful balance between informing the customer with relevant data while making a complex topic simple and approachable.

> Finding good engineers is hard, and Dev Shack stands out as **one of the best**. Mike and Matt worked on the launch of UtilityAnswer and helped us through various iterations of our interface. As a team, they complement each other well. They both make sound decisions, collaborate and support other team members, and they **move fast to deliver quality products.** Mike has an extra sensitive eye for presentation and UI in brainstorming sessions, and Matt is able to handle complex code with ease. Individually, and as a team, they are able to traverse the full stack and they constantly maintain a pulse on new technology to advance their capabilities. **I would highly recommend Dev Shack to technical and non-technical colleagues.**
